For many people, LASIK is an investment that provides a future with sharper, clearer vision free of glasses and contacts. However, planning for LASIK includes considering the procedure’s costs.

Keep reading to learn more about how much LASIK costs and whether or not insurance will help you pay for it!

How Much Does LASIK Eye Surgery Cost in 2025?

The national average cost of LASIK is about $5000 for both eyes, but your final costs will depend on your particular needs and the treatment plan your eye doctor sets for you. LASIK costs vary by region.

Prices are often higher in areas with high costs of living, like New York or California. Surgeons with higher levels of experience and expertise may also charge increased fees.

It may be tempting to consider visiting a discount LASIK facility, but often, there is a reason why these locations offer cheaper pricing. Those practices may advertise a low cost, but in most cases, they will start tacking on additional fees to bring your final bill up to the same price you would pay at a more reputable practice.

In addition, those facilities may not have the most advanced technologies, so the service you get may not be the best available. Choosing a highly qualified eye doctor will ensure that you get the best care for your money and get the best possible result from LASIK.

Does Vision Insurance Cover LASIK Surgery?

LASIK is considered an elective procedure, so most health insurance plans, including Medicare, do not cover the costs. However, it’s always worth a call to your insurance company to see if they provide any coverage for vision correction procedures.

Vision plans are separate from your health insurance plan. While they usually don’t provide full coverage for LASIK, they may offer discounts on LASIK. Even though insurance does not cover LASIK, at Manhattan LASIK Center, we offer discounts for certain insurance companies. Ask our Patient Counselor during your phone consultation to learn more.

Check with your vision plan to find out what assistance they may offer to bring your out-of-pocket costs down.

Can I Use FSA and HSA Plans to Pay for LASIK?

Many employers offer access to flexible spending accounts (FSA). You may also be eligible for a health savings account (HSA) if you have a high-deductible health insurance plan. These plans allow you to set aside money for eligible medical expenses, including LASIK.

If you opt into an FSA or HSA, you can elect to have a certain amount of money withheld from each paycheck and set aside in a special account. FSA and HSA contributions are withheld pre-tax, so they bring your annual tax burden down. At Manhattan LASIK Center, we accept both FSA and HSA accounts!

What Financing Options Are Available for LASIK?

Many patients choose to use their personal credit cards to cover some or all of the cost of LASIK. You can also explore financing with a healthcare credit line.

At Manhattan LASIK Center, we offer CareCredit and Alphaeon financing. Both companies offer an easy way for patients to get the vision care they want right away. CareCredit and Alphaeon offer financing with no upfront costs, easy monthly payments, and no penalties for prepayment on balances, as long as the payments are completed within the predetermined timeframe

The staff at Manhattan LASIK are happy to talk to you about financing options and help you apply for Care Credit or Alphaeon financing.

What to Expect When You Choose LASIK

LASIK is an outpatient procedure that can be performed in a LASIK surgeon’s office. You won’t need general anesthesia, but you can request mild sedation to help you stay relaxed during the procedure.

Your eye doctor will administer special eye drops that numb the surface of your eyes so you won’t feel discomfort. To perform LASIK, your eye doctor will carefully create a small flap on the front surface of your eye. At Manhattan LASIK Center, we perform Bladeless LASIK, during which our eye doctors use a Femtosecond Laser (an ultraviolet laser) to create the corneal flap. Using a laser instead of a traditional surgical blade offers better visual results and significantly reduces the risk of developing dry eyes after LASIK.

Once your eye doctor has opened the flap on the surface of the eye, they will use another laser instrument to reshape your cornea. This process alters how your cornea focuses light on the retina, improving visual acuity.

After reshaping the cornea, your eye doctor will close the flap on the surface of your eye and repeat the whole procedure on your other eye. LASIK is usually completed in under an hour.

“I filled out a form online on Sunday, had my consultation call on Monday, and had NEW EYES by Wednesday night! I woke up Thursday morning and was 100% fine! SMILE eye surgery is the way to go! I even played beach volleyball on Thursday night, exactly 24 hours after the surgery. It’s really amazing what they do! I absolutely recommend this life-changing procedure.”

What is the Recovery Like After LASIK?

Recovery from LASIK is typically uncomplicated, and you’ll be able to go home right away. Your eyes may feel sore, gritty, dry, or watery for the rest of the day, and you will need to wear an eye shield to protect them. You don’t need prescription pain medication. You can take over-the-counter medications like Advil or Tylenol to manage any pain.

It’s important to follow aftercare instructions, including:

  • Use prescription eye drops as directed to prevent infection
  • Restrict activities like strenuous exercise or swimming for several weeks
  • No cosmetics around your eyes for several weeks.

You should notice your vision improving right after completing LASIK. Your vision will continue to improve over the next few weeks and gradually stabilize as your eyes heal completely.
