Wearing Make-up After Lasik Eye Surgery
If you are considering having Lasik, then you may want to know about make-up use. Some patients come to Lasik appointments with eyeliner, shadow, and mascara, but is this the right thing to do? We break down your Lasik experience into three sections, so that you know when you can or cannot wear your favorite cosmetics.
Before you have Lasik eye surgery
There is no reason that you cannot wear foundation or eye make-up up until a few days before your consultation. We recommend that you steer clear of cosmetics for about 24 hours before your visit. We take very sensitive measurements on the day of your consultation, so to prevent smudging and inaccurate results, no make-up is the best way to get precise figures.
Did you know that you should not use lotion or perfume on the day of your Lasik eye surgery? Perfumes and creams along with cosmetics can cause problems for the laser. Our goal is to make sure you get the best possible outcome. To minimize problems, we ask that you follow the 24-hour rule here too.
After your procedure
After Lasik, you will want to avoid foundation for at least two days. Mascara is a no-no for a couple of weeks or more after your Lasik eye surgery because you have to be extremely careful about rubbing the eye to reduce the chances of dislodging the flap created in the treatment. Eyeshadows and liners should wait a few weeks to minimize infection risks.
Lasik eye surgery will cause your routine to change for a while, but the benefits outweigh the disadvantages. This fact is especially true when you work in an active profession, play professional sports, or participate in extreme exercise.
