Before, During & After Your Relex SMILE Procedure

Are you preparing to have the Relex SMILE procedure? Do you want to know what to expect from the process? We have everything you need to know below.

Before Relex SMILE you should:

  • Book a free consultation with a trusted provider of laser vision surgeries
  • Refrain from contact lens use for a minimum of 3-4 days before your visit – three weeks if you use the more rigid lenses
  • Try to use little or no makeup for at least a few days before treatment
  • Arrange a ride home for the day of surgery and to your first follow-up appointment
  • Look at reviews and testimonials on sites like Yelp and Google

During your procedure you can expect:

  • The surgeon to put any pain fears at ease with numbing drops
  • Once in the chair, a speculum will hold your eyelids safely out of the way keeping you from blinking
  • You will stare ahead as the surgeon operates the laser
  • A small, circular incision about the size of a regular grain of rice provides the access point for the operation

After the Relex SMILE procedure

  • You will sit back and let your eyes adjust for a few minutes
  • You will get specific instructions on eye drop use and things to be wary of at home
  • You may not drive for the first day or two until the surgeon clears you
  • Some patients, up to 80 percent, experience immediate improvement in eyesight
  • Feel some itchiness, dryness, or twitching
