After Lasik Eye Surgery – Complete Care

Lasik eye surgery recovery begins with a healthy diet

Patients who plan to undergo Lasik eye surgery should begin taking excellent care of themselves several weeks before their procedure. You should eat plenty of fresh fruits, vegetables, complex grains, and lean meats to give your body the nutrients it needs to stay healthy and prevent infection after laser eye surgery. Drinking plenty of water is also recommended. Sometimes, patients can experience a period of dry eyes that can get worse with dehydration.

After-care requires constant attention for as long as six months

Lasik eye surgery requires a commitment to put eye drops in the eyes for several months after the procedure. The surgeon will also ask that you come back for regular follow-up appointments to monitor your progress and check for signs of complications. You should always contact your Lasik specialist if you have much pain, extremely troublesome glaring, severe headaches, and increased allergy symptoms. If you develop a fever, then you may want to visit an emergency room if you cannot get into the Lasik center soon enough.

Rest is the first thing that is prescribed for Lasik patients

Immediately after Lasik eye surgery, the specialist will ask you to have someone drive you home so you can rest for the next 24-hours. You may or may not have a temporary contact lens placed over your eye. If you do, then you will have an appointment for five days after surgery to have it removed. Any bandages can be taken off the day after surgery and you can begin to move around normally. Playing sports is prohibited for the first few weeks after the procedure.
Avoiding a dry environment is also recommended to make sure the eye is surrounded with a minimal amount of moisture during healing. Some dryness is common, but if you experience severely dry eyes, painful eyes from lack of tears, or exceptionally wet eyes, then you should contact your Lasik specialist to see if you should come in for a checkup. You will have other appointments over the next six months, or until your eye is completely healed. You should realize that your eyesight is expected to change over the course of three to six months after your procedure. Any questions that you have can easily be answered with a quick call to your Lasik center.
