You will be pleased to know that Lasik eye surgery takes only five to fifteen minutes per eye. Some patients are done in fifteen minutes for both when a trusted and experienced provider performs Lasik. We go over the procedure and what to expect during healing below.
The Lasik eye surgery process
After your initial consultation to check your vision, measure the dimensions of your eyes, and go over your health and lifestyle, your Lasik surgeon will schedule your procedure. You will have numbing drops in your eyes when you come in for the operation. Lasik eye surgery takes about five to fifteen minutes for the surgeon to adapt the curve of the cornea to correct vision. After, a quick discussion covering eye drops and after-care instructions, you are on your way home. You will nap for the following night or so and wake up with much clearer vision.
Healing after Lasik
Everyone heals at their own pace, but most people typically see better within a few hours after Lasik. You will find that your vision improves quickly over the next few days to a week, but there could be some discomfort or itchiness. It is important to keep yourself from rubbing the eyes until the flap has time to heal. After about a week, you can go back to many activities except for swimming and hot tub use. Heavy exercise and extreme sports should wait a couple of weeks to let your eyes heal much better. A rough experience could cause problems to the recent flap healing.
You will see your Lasik eye surgeon a few times after Lasik until about twelve months past the surgery. You will continue to heal and improve over the entire span. For more information, please call 212-759-9617 to schedule a free consultation.
