Lasik eye surgery only takes a few minutes to complete. Most of the appointment time is taken up with conversations about the procedure, risks, complications, and expectations. Your surgeon will ask you to lie back in an operating chair or bed while he or she goes over the procedure a final time. The doctor will direct you to relax while they numb your eyes with eye drops and place a lid speculum in your eye to hold the lid in place so that you cannot blink. The procedure itself takes only a few minutes. The surgeon will use a laser to create a flap in the cornea during your Lasik surgery. A different laser reshapes the cornea based on the amount of correction you need. The flap is put back in place and the surgeon will direct you to rest for several hours after your surgery. You may also be told to wear sunglasses for the first two days in case you are light-sensitive and to keep you from rubbing your eyes.
